Caught Up in You--SOLD

30mm diameter - Mosaic gold, turquoise, freshwater pearl in sterling silver
Email for Purchase Info

I leave again you this Friday with a slightly bigger piece. Despite the difficulties they pose, I'm enjoying working with the curves right now. This time, I also wanted to play with  some textural contrast. I love raw turquoise, so I had a thoroughly excellent time creating this piece. Having said that, I wish to some degree I had not put in the freshwater pearl and had used more turquoise in its place. What do you think?

Pools of Ink - SOLD

!2mm diameter - Mosaic gold, smalti, filati in sterling silver

These were done upon request for my sister. All black is a challenge, particularly to ensure I get lots of shimmer out of the piece event though there is no hue nor tonal variation in the pieces. They were also very difficult to create, but that is partially my own fault. As I'm constantly trying to improve my process, and therefore the quality of my wearable art pieces, I've recently started colour matching my adhesive to my tesserae. Working in jet black material on jet black adhesive is almost like working blind. I felt bug eyed by the time I was finished....

18mm by 13mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver
Email for Purchase Info

The ever deepening red colour on this pendant reminds me that Valentine's Day is just over two weeks away.  There is still time buy (or drop hints for someone else) and have a piece of one-of-a-kind mosaic jewelry delivered. Just as special as your sweetheart!

I'm also very pleased to announce that I'll be teaching "Precision Mosaic Jewelry" at Wolf Willow Studios in Calgary, AB, Canada on March 7-8. It's the first of 6 teaching weekends in a row for me. I've never taught in Calgary before, despite having lived just 3 hours away for a very long time. If you'd like more details, you can find them here.

Blades of Grass - SOLD

28mm by 7mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver

I once heard that green is technically a neutral colour. Which makes sense when you start thinking how flowers come in every colour under the sun, yet none of them clash with their foliage.  As a result, I think these earrings would look good with just about any outfit.

Full Moon--SOLD

20mm diameter - Mosaic gold in sterling silver
Email for Purchase Info

This would be far cooler name if it actually was the full moon today, but I'm not quite that organized. This piece is a blend of the same white golds that I used last Wednesday on the round earrings. It's such a lovely, textural blend.

I'm feeling so grateful for this time in the studio for the next while. Life is going to get very hectic in March, as I'll be teaching 6 weekends back to back, in 5 different locations! So I'm enjoying this calm, yet, productive time.

50mm diameter - Mosaic gold and Venetian glass cabochon in sterling silver
Email for Purchase Info

The name of this blog might be Mosaic a Day, but let me tell you, this was certainly not finished in one day. In fact, it took me three days of pretty painstaking work. But I have to say, I'm really pleased with the results. In fact, I think it could be the best pendant I've done to date. As such, I've gone a bit over board with the photos.

What you might not know is that any of those curves would look really wonky if any one of the pieces were out by the tiniest bit. And by tiniest bit I mean 0.5mm, or less than 1/32" for those folks on the Empirical system.

The large round cabochon near the middle is a glass piece made in Venice. I acquired it from a friend in Tucson. Designing the rest of the pendant based on the cabochon was a wonderfully enjoyable challenge. I have a few more from him, so when I've recovered from making this one, I'll attempt something similar.

While this pendant has a fair bit of green, it does lean somewhat towards the blue side. The gold I've used here is technically the reverse of the pieces, so the gold is at the bottom of the glass rather than right at the top. This gives this piece a lots depth and a some great texture as well!

And I am feeling lucky today. A lovely studio that's all mine for another 6 weeks, a cutie pie dog to snuggle with, and awesome friends and family that are just a phone call or text away. Life is good.

Silver Linings--SOLD

1.2mm diameter each - Mosaic gold in sterling silver

Happy New Year!  I apologize for taking so long to get back in my groove, but I'm now established at one of my temporary studios, and I have a full 6 weeks to play. So the daily postings return!

The tesserae in these very silver earring are made entirely of mosaic gold manufactured by Mosaici Dona Murano, located in Venice, Italy. Their lovely product is carried by di Mosaico, located in Tucson. You may remember I spent some time at the di Mosaico store in November. Well, I'm pleased to announce I will be headed back to Tucson and di Mosaico at the end of March, this time to teach. Best of all, I'll be teaching not only my "Precision Mosaic Jewelry " workshop April 3-4, but also a brand new class, "Tucson Mixed Media: Marble, Smalti, and Found Gems" the previous weekend, March 27-29. The links will take you to the classes where you can find out all the information.
