Well, after a brief stop in Paris, I have made it back to Santorini. One of the things I love about this time of year is that everything is fresh. The tourist season is yet very young (some places haven't even opened yet), all the new coats of paint are still pristine, and as the summer heat hasn't set in yet, there is still green to be seen. The grape vines blaze verdant, the green tomatoes already grow, and the zucchinis blossom in full force. Rain has coaxed the bougainvilleas to bloom. Succulents flower brightly.
Unfortunately, not all of my roof garden plants made it through the winter, which was expected, but it never fails to amaze me how few of them survive. So the work begins to sow and plant anew to recreate the oasis that I enjoy throughout the summer, and love sharing with my Santorini mosaic workshop students. I'm also considering adding some "permanent" mosaic flowers up here on the walls...what do you think? I'm really feeling the desire to be surrounded by even more beauty in this already wonderful space.
