Back when I was in Egypt, I went to the Egypt Museum, more than once. I always went with a private guide, Gad. He loves to talk. Anyone who knows me well, knows I love weird bits of information (and will remember these bits FOREVER), so he and I are a great match. One thing particularly fascinating for me was that to make the kohl for their eyeliners, the Egyptians would use galena for black, lapis lazuli for blue, and malachite for green. Malachite was considered the most precious. These minerals would be ground daily. The intriguing part was in addition to beauty enhancement, using these minerals around the eyes provided a degree of eye protection from the blazing sun. How clever!
