I've not worked much with Mexican smalti. I discovered, however, that I love it. It has two usable sides, and they tend to be slightly different colors, which greatly expands the color palette. It's hard to tell in this photo, but I was trying to imitate the nuances of the jasper with the background. I may have accomplished it, but you do have to squint a bit.
